Confidence is the Mother of All Success!

Someone walks into a room and everyone present takes notice of her. Everyone wants to listen to her and when she tells a funny story, they laugh – genuinely. She is comfortable in her own skin, self-assured and is well aware of her strengths. You too can harness the power of confidence and go through life with charisma and charm. Being confident will make you feel emotionally secure leading to the success you deserve.

You can begin with a self-confidence plan, by doing affirmations everyday – remind yourself daily about the good within you and the skill sets you have. In my 10 Tips For Ultimate Confidence, I mention in Tip 3 that you should be your role model. Look to inwardly and project what you know is liked by the people around you.

Have a mad passionate love affair with yourself. Love, embrace and believe in yourself. I know how realistic it is to become wildly successful. You can totally create an abundant, joyful and prosperous business life if you re willing to do the work.

It’s there. It’s yours. Go out and get it!

Idioms?

The future depends on what we do in the present. - Mahatma Gandhi

A few days ago, I had the pleasure of attending a meeting. The meeting was, well, what most meetings are like, but the part that caught my attention was when someone used an idiom.

If you think the idiom was what caught my attention, you are wrong. It was the expression on the faces around the room that caught my attention. It was the “Huh?” look. Since most of them had that look, the speaker voluntarily explained the meaning of the idiom that she mentioned earlier.

The next incident happened over the course of a few days after the first incident. I met my cousin who speaks pretty well in English. She was telling me about the decisions she has to make in her life, and in particular, she had to wait for some of her results to get in before she makes that particular decision. So I told her, trying to sound wise and all that “Well, you know how a watched pot never boils”. And then came the look, the same one I experienced in the meeting a few days ago, but this time, I was pretty shocked.

So I went on asking her to tell me if she uses idioms at all, and if they teach some in school. From her explanation, it dawned to me that idioms were only used when it came to writing essays, because using idioms were considered creative, and therefore, earned them more points.

Since this is the scenario that most Malaysians are faced with, I have decided to include an idiom in my every entry starting today. Hope this will help.

Idiom of the day: A watched pot never boils
Meaning: Some things work out in their own time, so being impatient and constantly checking will just make things seem longer.

The English Language

Found this at this website, http://www.ahajokes.com. This will enlighten you on how confusing the English language really is, so if you think you’re weak at it, think again.

Enjoy.

Let's face it
English is a stupid language.
There is no egg in the eggplant
No ham in the hamburger
And neither pine nor apple in the pineapple.
English muffins were not invented in England
French fries were not invented in France.

We sometimes take English for granted
But if we examine its paradoxes we find that
Quicksand takes you down slowly
Boxing rings are square
And a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

If writers write, how come fingers don't fing.
If the plural of tooth is teeth
Shouldn't the plural of phone booth be phone beeth
If the teacher taught,
Why didn't the preacher praught.

If a vegetarian eats vegetables
What the heck does a humanitarian eat!?
Why do people recite at a play
Yet play at a recital?
Park on driveways and
Drive on parkways

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy
Of a language where a house can burn up as
It burns down
And in which you fill in a form
By filling it out
And a bell is only heard once it goes!

English was invented by people, not computers
And it reflects the creativity of the human race
(Which of course isn't a race at all)

That is why
When the stars are out they are visible
But when the lights are out they are invisible
And why it is that when I wind up my watch
It starts
But when I wind up this observation,
It ends.
